- What is the purpose of IREAD-3? The purpose of IREAD-3 is to measure foundational reading standards through grade three.
- When is the IREAD-3 assessment? The first round of IREAD always takes place in the first two weeks of March. Third graders who don't pass the first time are given another chance to take the test in May. The final opportunity to pass IREAD is in the summer following summer school.
- Who takes IREAD-3? All Pike Township students in 2nd and 3rd grade will take the IREAD-3 assessment annually, as well as students in higher grades who have been unable to pass the test previously.
- What kinds of questions will be on the IREAD-3 test? IREAD is entirely multiple choice. There are three categories of questions students will see. Part 1 of IREAD is "Foundational Skills" which includes questions about phonics and vocabulary. Parts 2 and 3 include fiction and nonfiction reading comprehension passages.
- How are the results of IREAD-3 communicated to parents? A few weeks after the end of the IREAD-3 testing window, the state will release IREAD-3 scores to parents. These are posted on Skyward in the Test Scores tab on the left sidebar.
- What happens if my student does not pass IREAD-3?
- 2nd Grade
- Students who are in 2nd grade and do not pass IREAD-3 will be scored as "On Track" or "At Risk."
- We assume students who are placed in the "On Track" category will pass when they take the test again in 3rd grade.
- Students who are deemed "At Risk" will be more frequently assessed, receive targeted instruction for IREAD-related academic needs and will attend summer school the following summer.
- They will have the opportunity to retake the IREAD-3 assessment after summer school.
- 3rd Grade
- Students in 3rd grade who score in the "Did Not Pass" category on IREAD (any score below 446) will receive targeted instruction based on their weak areas on IREAD-3.
- They will then retake IREAD-3 in May prior to the end of the school year. If they pass at that time, no additional steps are necessary.
- However, any 3rd grade student who has not passed the IREAD-3 test by the end of the school year will attend summer school and will have one last opportunity to take the test following summer school.
- Students who are not new to the US and do not have diagnosed disabilities will be retained in 3rd grade if they do not pass by the end of summer school.
- Students who do not pass IREAD-3 as a third grader will continue to retake the test every year until they either pass or complete 6th grade.
