Car Rider Procedures
Car Rider Procedures
Hello, Parents!
Please read these car rider procedures carefully. If you have any questions about any of these procedures, feel free to ask a staff member at arrival or dismissal, or call the front office at 317-299-1266.
- Get Ready!
- Morning Dropoff: Hats and gloves should already be on, hugs given and backpacks ready for students to grab and hop out of the car. If your child falls asleep in the car rider line, please wake them up well before it is your turn.
- Afternoon Pickup: As soon as the line starts to move, be ready to pull all the way forward.
- Keep the Line Moving!
- Once the line starts to move, please stow your cell phone and keep your eyes on the line. If you are the first car in line, pull all the way up to the stop sign. Otherwise, pull up as close as you comfortably can to the car in front of you. The less space we have between cars, the more cars we can fit into each round of unloading.
- When It Is Your Turn...
- Morning Dropoff: When your car is pulled up next to the sidewalk, your child should exit the vehicle and head inside. They don’t need to wait for a staff member to open the door. With the exception of our smallest kindergarteners, students should be able to exit the vehicle and shut the door without help.
- Afternoon Pickup: As soon as your child is in the vehicle with their seatbelt on, be ready to pull away. If your child is still using a safety seat, have them practice buckling themselves in to make this process faster, or pull up into an empty space to assist your child with their seatbelt if needed.
- Keep Everyone Safe!
- Make sure your child is able to enter and exit from the passenger side of the vehicle so they are not on the side with traffic. Encourage your child to walk on the side of the sidewalk closest to the building to keep them away from the other cars. For safety reasons, we also cannot accept car riders from or dismiss students to cars that are parked in parking lot spaces.
- If You Have a Problem...
- If your child is not ready, or you need to talk to a staff member, please pull your car all the way up to the stop sign so you aren’t blocking the rest of the line.
- On Your Way Out...
- Once your car door closes, please stay in your spot in line. Do not drive around the line of cars unless you are directed to do so by a staff member, as this can cause issues at the front of the line and isn’t safe for people who may be out of their vehicle on the driver’s side.
